Expansion into larger premises

Following the continued expansion of Syntech's customer base, the company has now purchased the former AVX building in Paignton. With over 130,000 sq ft of manufacturing space the new facility provides over double the manufacturing area of the previous building. The new facility provides an extensive suite of offices, engineering areas and manufacturing.

Mike Badcott, Engineering Director said
"The opportunity to purchase the former AVX facility has meant that we will now have our own facility, secure in the knowledge that it offers us the space and resource to continue our growth for years to come. As the countries leading  RF and  Wireless Contract Electronics Manufacturer we continue to see a bright future for the  manufacturing and engineering skills that  the Syntech team can offer in a growing market"

Syntech's move to new larger facility

Following a number of years of continual expansion, Syntech Technologies are moving their Contract Electronic Manufacturing facilities to a new site in Paignton.

The new site, in the former Nortel Networks facility, provides over 100,000 sq ft of modern, air conditioned, manufacturing space, final assembly and test.  In addition all the key support functions including engineering, test, purchasing, sales and marketing and accounts and now housed on the same site.

With 3 high speed Fuji surface mount lines with, AOI, ICT, Flying problem X-Ray along with a range of other test solutions, Syntech can now offer fast turnaround prototype and NPI builds, through to high volume manufacturing.

Syntech Technologies were established in 1999 and have now grown to over 110 highly trained staff building a range of Wireless and Telecoms products for numerous major UK companies.  Unlike a lot of CEMs, Syntech has a team of skilled engineers who support the production.

Mike Badcott, Engineering Director said "The key to our strength has been our strong engineering background and enables us to provide a level of technical support to our customers that is critical in prototype, NPI and volume production.  This new facility provides considerable more capacity to support a greater number of new customers with higher volume builds whilst proving even more facilities for our existing customers".

This unique engineering capability also enables Syntech to provide comprehensive test solutions for their customers, many of which are fully automated.

Syntech are focused on providing end to end manufacturing solutions for their customers that offer high reliability, high yield and at low cost.

Syntech combine Takaya efficiency with

Itochu test programming to develop a

new business model

Syntech offer high speed SMT assembly, fast track prototyping, low and high surface mount.  Their volume lines are based on Fuji IP3 and Fuji CP6 machines, providing a comprehensive capability supporting the full range of SMT, BGA and QFP packages.  Throughout the manufacturing process every product is carefully tracked and logged.  Functional test results are logged and provided to their customers enabling them to optimise design centering.  Exact performance trends are carefully monitored to ensure both optimum product performance and manufacturing yield.

Key to the speed of turnaround and accuracy in manufacture has been the installation of the Takaya 9411 series flying probe test system from Itochu.  The speed of the system, coupled with the facility to install cameras top and bottom to facilitate visual inspection, supports the business objectives of Syntech Technologies - providing fast and efficient turnaround in manufacture.

Another major factor in the selection of the Takaya was the fact that there is often limited or no test access on the pcb's for conventional BoN and other test methods.  The Takaya system does not require test pads and can be programmed from CAD software.

Furthermore, in order to gain an early advantage, Syntech's test team took the decision to use Itochu's test programming service for their system.   According to Steve Harris, Business Development Manager at Syntech Technologies, "This service from Itochu enables us to gain maximum benefit from our flying probe test system, utilising the experience and skills of Takaya-dedicated technicians, whilst our own staff are being trained on the system and software".

Graham South, Itochu's Takaya Business Development Manager, is pleased with the approach taken by Syntech Technologies.  "The opportunity not only to provide Syntech Technologies with the Takaya 9411 but also assist with our dedicated test programming service demonstrates the depth of support customers can expect from us".
